Hey there! Welcome back to Made By Hera. Today, I’m so excited to share a new crochet design I’ve been working on—and even better, I’ve documented the whole process so you can follow along and make your own version!

Whether you’re a beginner or have a few projects under your belt, this step-by-step guide will walk you through everything, from yarn choice to finishing touches.

🧶 What You’ll Need

  • 1 skein of any yarn
  • A crochet hook (I used a 3.0)
  • Scissors
  • A yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Stitch markers (optional but helpful!)

✨ Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Choosing Your Yarn & Getting Started

Start by picking your yarn and begin with a magic ring and chain 8 single crochets into the circle to start.

Step 2: The Base Row

For the base, I used double crochets with a pattern 1, 2 (insert another double crotchet into the same stitch for the number 2). Keep your tension relaxed—this part sets the tone for the rest of your piece.

Step 3: Adding Texture

The photo shows what it should look like now. If not, don’t worry! Just take your time. Now, just do double crotchets for the next two rows. If you want to spice it up in any way, feel free.

Step 4: Building the Body

Now keep going! This part is a bit of a rhythm game. I usually put on some music or a podcast and just flow. Go back to the 1, 2 method and carry on. This part depends on how big you want your coaster to be.

Step 5: Finishing the Edges

Once your piece is the size you want, finish off with a few rows [e.g., single crochet] for a clean edge. This helps it hold shape and gives it a polished finish.

Step 6: Weaving in Ends

Weaving in ends is nobody’s favorite part, but it’s so satisfying once done. I always take my time here—it’s like tying a bow on your project.

🌼 Final Look

And voilà! Your handmade beauty is complete. I’m genuinely so happy with how this design turned out—it’s soft, cozy, and has just the right amount of detail. Mine is quite small but yours can be however big you want.
